Walking Through A Dream
Played By: Nik Grisel (Whereabouts unknown)
Humanity is born into light. It is, they say, their birthright. Such is not our fate, for my people are born into darkness and shackles. Such was my fate. I was born of a mother I would never knew, who cast her last flame upon my arrival into this world. The tieflings who kept us would never give us names, but Braka gave me a name in their language. He called me Dathra Karr, which is to be “One Alone”. I was raised by Braka and his woman, a human he had claimed, whom I can only think loved him, for as he bled in our arms she told me he was the only being she had ever loved. When I was but a boy, Braka was forced to teach me to forge and wield, for I was meant for more, so said the overseer. The overseer hid his grim pleasure as well as Braka hid his disdain, but never the less I began to forge weapons for their males. And with them I taught myself how to avenge my people, but in secret, for my time was not to come. Yet.
The overseer came years later to claim me. I was to be a spectacle, a massive reptile to fight in their rings. And fight I did. I brought pain to those I could, pain earned by those who put me in that ring. In return i earned each scar and sever. I bloodied men and monsters alike. I was not scales and sinew, I was more, but I knew not what until the 30th year of my life. Upon that day, Braka came to my cage, littered with the dragonkind woman they gave to me, and he told me tomorrow, in the court of the overseer I would meet the light. He gave me the key to my chains and bid me run, but I knew not where to go. I waited to zee my opportunity, but it would not come as I expected. Opportunity was replaced with reaction. I stood there in the court of the overseer and suprised him and his guests as I killed those sent to kill me. For my commendable performance, the overseer said I would know freedom, but before I did, and in order to truely be free, I needed one last thing, and so I was shown back to Braka’s home. My home. Where I found Braka slain, his woman cradling him. At that moment I knew what I was. I was rage. I took up the sword I had forged for myself and brought it down upon the heads of so many that the other slaves came to know me as the trail of blood. As I came to the overseers throneroom, I had freed many of the slaves and yet none would touch him save me. He took my finger, I took his head. On that day I saw the light of Braka’s pyre and the light of the world above. And so I wandered the world. In my freedom, I knew not what I would become, but I would do so as a free dragon. I found wars and battles and forges and bars, I tumbled tthrough the world until one day I found myself facedown in the mud during the southern monsoons. A dragonkind, one of those I had freed, tried to kill me for what was the nothingness that I owned. On that day, I became something else. For I was saved by a brother of the Ember Guard. A dragon far older than I saved me and told me that the day would come when I would die, and upon that day I would have to atone to Io for the misuse of the life he gave me. He and the three others, theh nursed me back to health, and gave me new purpose, one I found resounded within me. And so, as all members of the Ember, I have set out into the world to know what it is to truely be more then that which was my lot in life. For I was born into darkness and shackles and I shall never allow another to live as I have, for no being should be as I was. I am Dathra Karr, one alone against many. I shall show the world that even though embers are all that exist of the fire which was the power of my people, that we will always be a light in times when all others have been cast into shadow.
